The song "Kepompong" by the Indonesian music group "Sindentosca" is about friendship. The genre is pop and the mood is bright and happy. For our project, we use a Lofi remix, which is a bit slower and calmer.

In the selected quotation, friendship is described through a metaphor with a butterfly. The life of a butterfly is analogous to the course of a friendship. The caterpillar can only grow into a beautiful butterfly by pupating in a cocoon. Similarly, a friendship also experiences many difficulties but can be beautiful in the end, if the problems are overcome together.

It is an Indonesian song, which was new for the German team members. We show the different feelings evoked by the song for the German students compared to the Indonesian students in the following graphics.

We asked 6 Indonesian and 6 German students about their feelings regarding the song. We divided the survey into feelings about music and feelings about the quote.

All in all, there are only small differences between the emotions of the Germans and those of the Indonesians regarding the song.

Our team’s main goal is to convey the message that friendship is a beautiful thing. Friendship is a worldwide unifying element.

Regardless of the location, it can overcome all problems and the outcome, in the end, is beautiful.

In our animation, we show the friendship between two people, one Indonesian and one German. These two friends endure all problems and overcome all difficulties.

Although they sometimes go in different directions, they always find their way back together. Nothing can destroy their friendship. Ultimately, they maintain a strong friendship and experience great things.

The quote from the song Sindentosca - Kepompong (2017) describes the metaphor of the transition of a caterpillar to a butterfly, symbolizing the development of friendship. Therefore, it is appropriate for the color concept to use bright and warm colors for the message of friendship, but also cooler less saturated colors to embody the nature of the metaphor. We decided to use handwriting for the expression of the feelings of friendship as well as the freedom and carefree mood of butterflies. Besides pure typographic animation, we also use illustrations in our animation.

To tell a story about friendship, we start with two friends who work on a puzzle together, then drift apart, then come back together again. So, in the end, a butterfly of letters appears to show the beautiful thing that happens when you persist through thick and thin.

In developing our project, we noticed that on different topics there are cultural differences in feelings.

But the emotions about friendship are relatively similar, because social connections are probably important everywhere in the world.
